Released in July 2015, Currents marked a massive shift for Tame Impala. Moving away from the guitar-heavy psych-rock of Innerspeaker and Lonerism , Kevin Parker embraced synthesizers, disco grooves, and R&B influences.

Following the success of Tame Impala's second album, Lonerism (2012), Kevin Parker began working on new material for Currents. The album was recorded in a rented house in Fremont, East Perth, and marked a significant shift in Parker's songwriting approach.
