Born on April 5, 1994, in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China, Lin Siyi's path to stardom was unique. Before joining SNH48, she worked behind the scenes in the media industry, serving as a television director for the and as an intern editor for Board Games magazine .

As of 2026, is reportedly working on her most ambitious project yet: a multi-year documentation of the last surviving clan houses (kongsi) of the Hokkien and Teochew communities in southern Thailand and northern Malaysia. The project, tentatively titled The Silent Kongsi , involves not only visual art but a podcast series and a collaborative mapping project with anthropologists from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
