The film revolves around the lives of two friends, Ram (R. Madhavan) and Srikanth (Silambarasan), who have different personalities and approaches to life. Ram is a happy-go-lucky guy who falls in love with a girl named Hema (Sonia Agarwal), while Srikanth is a more serious and responsible person. The story takes a turn when Srikanth gets involved with a girl named Bittoo (also Sonia Agarwal), and the two friends start to drift apart.
The story follows two sisters, Sowmya (Tabu) and Meenakshi (Aishwarya Rai), who could not be more different. Sowmya is pragmatic and grounded, while Meenakshi is romantic and dreamy. After a family crisis leaves them destitute, they move to a dilapidated ancestral home.
