1) Gather source files
Video files (MKV/MP4/M2TS). Prefer highest-quality rips you own. Original English subtitle (SRT/ASS/SSA/VTT) for reference. Arabic translation subtitle(s) (SRT/ASS). 2) Choose subtitle format
SRT: simplest, widest support, no styling. ASS/SSA: supports styling, positioning, karaoke, hearing-impaired tags — use if you want consistent appearance. Ensure translation matches speaker, tone, and context (names, place names). Keep line length ≤ 42 characters per line, ≤ 2 lines per subtitle when targeting TVs/phones. Readability: Break at natural speech pauses, maintain sentence fragments for quick reads. Maintain speaker identification: use dash or name tags when multiple speakers share a line. 5) Styling (ASS) — readability & aesthetics
Choose sans-serif Arabic font with wide support (e.g., Noto Naskh Arabic, Noto Sans Arabic). Font size: test on typical TV/phone — avoid too large or too small. Use high-contrast outline + shadow: white text, black outline 2–3px. Position: bottom-center default; move to top for obstructed scenes (Aegisub typesetting). Karaoke: remove unless necessary. Encoding: save ASS in UTF-8 without BOM.
