Based on the novel by Hubert Selby Jr., "Requiem for a Dream" tells the intertwined stories of four characters struggling with addiction and desperation in modern-day New York City. The film centers around Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto), a young heroin addict; his mother, Sara (Ellen Burstyn), a lonely widow succumbing to her own addiction to diet pills; his girlfriend, Marion (Jennifer Connelly), a fragile and vulnerable young woman; and Tyrone (Marlon Wayans), Harry's friend and supplier.
